About the hosts:
Judy ~
In 1988, Judy became vegetarian on the spot when she read a brochure at the Curiosity Shoppe in Bend about how the animals are treated that are raised for food. Later, after reading Diet For a New America, Judy became vegan. She has been an ardent supporter of the animals ever since, founding two groups locally over the past 22 years to help share with others the benefits of a plant-based diet. It remains a passionate part of her life.
Judy does accounting in her main job, but she loves to garden, read, and watch all kind of animals in nature. She has deer, raccoons, rabbits, lizards, as well as hundreds of birds of all kinds in her yard. Judy has tried to make it a home to all of them even though the deer often eat her plants right out of the containers before she even has a chance to plant them!
On Friday nights, Judy and her husband, also vegan, like to enjoy movies together and on Saturdays you can usually find them at one of the local coffee shops, sipping coffee as they talk about their week and upcoming plans.
Barb ~
Barb, a compassionate animal activist, has been vegetarian for 5 years & vegan for the last 2, and thinks it’s one of the best decisions she’s ever made. She enjoys tweaking software for her day job, running the nonprofit VegNet Bend with Judy, voraciously reading a wide variety of genres (including sci-fi & nature/science writing), and blogging, writing, yoga, birding, hiking, and mountain biking in her spare time. She also spends a lot of time with her hubby and their household menagerie of 4 cats, 2 dogs (greyhound and pug), and a cranky parrot.
Ha! I think we’re related – I do accounting software for my real life, and have two greyhounds. 😉
