James McWilliams on what Locavores and Vegans have in common and how to truly reform our industrial food system
In this show we talk with James McWilliams, a writer based in Austin, Texas, whose articles have appeared in the New York Times, The Washington Post, Harper’s, Slate, Forbes and numerous other publications. His thoughts appear almost daily on his blog, “Eating Plants.” James is a contributor to Freakonomics.com and the new Laika Magazine. He is the author of several books including “Just Food: Where Locavores Get It Wrong and How We Can Truly Eat Responsibly.” James has more books in the works, one scheduled to be published this year, plus in the fall he’ll start a year-long speaking tour.
We also bring you News from The Vegan Frontier, including why Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel asked the city of Chicago to go vegan, and how a group of dolphins tries to save one of their own by making a raft with their bodies. Plus we read a tribute to Changila, an elephant gunned down by poachers.
And, of course, we let you know about vegan related happenings in and around Central Oregon, and more!
